DIRECT TV AND ADT

Hi Neighbors-
Just thought we would post this in case anyone is interested. We had some folks ask us for this last night, so we thought we post on the blog. We received a card in the mail from DIRECTV for a $100 credit for new subscribers. We did this when we signed up and basically we were referred from our friend and they gave us a $100 credit towards our DirectTv bill. They also give the person referring a credit too!! It was so easy u just give the acct number and they credit u both. I thought I would post in case anyone is thinking of DIRECTV. Also, ADT is doing the same thing. They give each person a credit if u sign up. We also have ADT and have had great service with them thus far. Information is below and u can contact us if u need us or have questions regarding the type of service we have.

Ps.. some neighbors have said they didn't get their alarms hooked up because they did not have a land line phone. ADT can do it through cell towers, and you do NOT need a land line (home phone.) Cells are much better anyway because phone lines can't be cut!!

Direct TV information:
Call 1-866-951-6107
reference acct#046458366
Then, both of us will get a $100 credit. It works great!

ADT information:
Call 1-800-689-9554
ask for Sales
then, reference ticket #440599
Then, again both will get a credit. I think they actually even issue a check back, so not credit

Hope this helps-

Block Party Update

As of September 15th, we have about 19 people signed up for the block party on October 3rd. Towards the last week in September we can collaborate on who is going to be responsible for bringing what. Right now, I'm thinking that we will do this in the green area at the end of the development where the new homes were just completed.

Block Party anyone?

I am trying to gauge whether there is any interest in having a block party on October 3rd. Possibly next to the S Kenmore Ct homes. I'm in 2531 (last completed row). This would be timely for our newest neighbors in the far corner who would have just moved in. If there is any interest, please contact me at jase700@yahoo.com and maybe we can start putting something together.

No Parking Signs

My wife complained that the construction workers were parking directly behind the last row of finished houses making it hard to get out of our garages. 1 hour later, No Parking signs up and problem solved.

Humidity levels inside the home

My wife and I live in 2628 S Kenmore and this is our first summer here in Shirlington Crest. For the past few weeks we've been having issues with high humidity levels in our home. We've had an air conditioning technician come and check the levels and AC unit but the humidity levels are regularly above 75% inside our house which is higher than the average level of humidity inside a home.

I'm wondering if others have experienced or are experiencing this same type of issue? If you have, were you able to resolve the issue? And if so, what did you do to fix it?

Thank you,
Jay

Trash Cans Under HOA Articles

I just found out today something that I would have known before had I read the HOA Articles more closely: Trash cans must be stored inside the garage, not outside. Those who have been here longer probably already knew that (and the same goes for those who read the HOA Articles closely). I'll move my trashcan into the garage tonight. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If there are other HOA articles that we as neighbors notice aren't being followed, hopefully this blog can serve an educational purpose that benefits everyone.

Garage Finishing

Prompted by John's post about the hosebib for the terrace, I thought I'd also throw an inexpensive and great resource if you're looking to have your garage finished. My wife and I moved in at the beginning of March, and we located an excellent contractor named Thomas who taped and painted the garage walls/ceiling, power-washed the floor, and then installed an epoxy finish on the garage floor. The garage looks great, and the price for the whole project was very reasonable (about what Stanley Martin would have charged to finish the walls).

If you have any interest in exploring that option, please don't hesitate to send me an email at christopher.j.walker at gmail.

ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS IN THE NEW PART OF THE DEVELOPMENT

It has been confirmed by Steve (who works on all the HOA issues) that Stanley Martin has NOT approved any watering of the plants in the new part of the development.  I issued a complaint because the trees lining the street keep dying.  They replaced them a couple weeks ago and they're dying again.  The landscaper told me that Stanley Martin directed him to NOT water any plants even though many of us have lived in the new section since March and have been paying our HOA dues every month since then.  What exactly are we paying for then?  While we watch our plants die, new potential buyers are driving through the development and seeing lovely brown trees. Great way to attract new buyers.  I don't know why Stanley Martin would possibly let this happen.  I suggest we all put in a formal complaint, especially since we're not benefiting from the actual dues that we pay.  This is unacceptable.

Verizon FIOS or COMCAST?

We are so excited about moving into the new neighborhood. However, we can't seem to get phone or internet service. I have heard this IS the most difficult. After spending probably 24 hours or more on the phone with each of these service providers, I am finally at a standstill. I have spoken to probably no less than 50 people and none are of any help. All tell me that COMCAST and FIOS is not available for us. I know this is untrue. However, I can't seem to get them to budge! I really am about to pull my hair out on this. If ANYONE has any solutions or contacts or anything that helped them get this service then please let us know!!
Thanks-

Shirlington Crest on the 4th of July

Hi All!

My name is Mark; and my fiance, Renee, and I just moved into the neighborhood at 2549 S. Kenmore Ct. I'm not sure if anyone was here for the last 4th of July, but does anyone know if we can see the Alexandria fireworks from our terraces (assuming the terrace faces toward Old Town)? Thanks, I know its still early, but we were very interested to find out!

Regards,

Mark

Wire/speed bump

Can anyone tell me what the wire is that runs in front of my building and goes up the hill to the new construction? Also, any plans to re-pave and remove the speed bump by the sales trailer? The road there is horrendous. Thanks.

Landscaping

All,

I just wanted to throw this out there....

An email was just sent out to Steve and Rhonda (cc'd: shirlingtoncrestowners email) regarding the landscaping. As the weather should soon be getting warmer, they have some work to do to replenish/replace/patch the dead trees and missing grass due to the extremely hot weather last spring and summer...and for them to maintain it this time.

Several phone calls were made last summer and fall to Steve and it was agreed they would take action to repair. At this point, I am not sure if they ever planned to honor their promise so I am starting the emails and calls again until we get satisfactory results.

I would like to urge you to reach out to him as well so that maybe the pressure will get him to take the request seriously.

Thanks all,

Building Signs Installed Today (25 Feb)

I am curious if anyone has seen the house number signs that were installed today through out the property and has any comments they would like to share.  I will be compiling any comments and forwarding them on to the community manager.

I personally believe that they are unprofessional and do not blend with the decor of the community and ultimately look awful.

Thanks
Lauren
