Trash Cans Under HOA Articles

I just found out today something that I would have known before had I read the HOA Articles more closely: Trash cans must be stored inside the garage, not outside. Those who have been here longer probably already knew that (and the same goes for those who read the HOA Articles closely). I'll move my trashcan into the garage tonight. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If there are other HOA articles that we as neighbors notice aren't being followed, hopefully this blog can serve an educational purpose that benefits everyone.

Garage Finishing

Prompted by John's post about the hosebib for the terrace, I thought I'd also throw an inexpensive and great resource if you're looking to have your garage finished. My wife and I moved in at the beginning of March, and we located an excellent contractor named Thomas who taped and painted the garage walls/ceiling, power-washed the floor, and then installed an epoxy finish on the garage floor. The garage looks great, and the price for the whole project was very reasonable (about what Stanley Martin would have charged to finish the walls).

If you have any interest in exploring that option, please don't hesitate to send me an email at christopher.j.walker at gmail.

ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS IN THE NEW PART OF THE DEVELOPMENT

It has been confirmed by Steve (who works on all the HOA issues) that Stanley Martin has NOT approved any watering of the plants in the new part of the development.  I issued a complaint because the trees lining the street keep dying.  They replaced them a couple weeks ago and they're dying again.  The landscaper told me that Stanley Martin directed him to NOT water any plants even though many of us have lived in the new section since March and have been paying our HOA dues every month since then.  What exactly are we paying for then?  While we watch our plants die, new potential buyers are driving through the development and seeing lovely brown trees. Great way to attract new buyers.  I don't know why Stanley Martin would possibly let this happen.  I suggest we all put in a formal complaint, especially since we're not benefiting from the actual dues that we pay.  This is unacceptable.

Verizon FIOS or COMCAST?

We are so excited about moving into the new neighborhood. However, we can't seem to get phone or internet service. I have heard this IS the most difficult. After spending probably 24 hours or more on the phone with each of these service providers, I am finally at a standstill. I have spoken to probably no less than 50 people and none are of any help. All tell me that COMCAST and FIOS is not available for us. I know this is untrue. However, I can't seem to get them to budge! I really am about to pull my hair out on this. If ANYONE has any solutions or contacts or anything that helped them get this service then please let us know!!
Thanks-

Shirlington Crest on the 4th of July

Hi All!

My name is Mark; and my fiance, Renee, and I just moved into the neighborhood at 2549 S. Kenmore Ct. I'm not sure if anyone was here for the last 4th of July, but does anyone know if we can see the Alexandria fireworks from our terraces (assuming the terrace faces toward Old Town)? Thanks, I know its still early, but we were very interested to find out!

Regards,

Mark
